Sweatshop Union – The Bill Murray EP

// March 27th, 2011 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Sweatshop Union released “The Bill Murray EP”, their 4th studio album, on March 1st 2011. I have been working with them since ’07, and had the pleasure of engineering and mixing this record. The overwhelming general consensus from critics is that this record is their best offering to date, and I would have to agree. The low track count is a clear sign that every song that made the record was carefully selected. The production, as usual, came a lot from within the group, as well as from my self, Rob The Viking and Dave Knill.

Canyon Boulevard x Michael Cassette – Little By Little

// February 3rd, 2011 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Canyon Boulevard, a side project of mine, has it’s first release in over a year coming to iTunes on Feb 15th 2011. It features a stunning remix from prog. house heavyweights Michael Cassette. I’m honored to have them a part of this release, as they are honestly one of my favorite electronic music production teams.  If you’ve got a sec, check out the track previews below:

Terell Safadi – Black Red Yellow (Black and Yellow Remix)

// January 29th, 2011 // No Comments » // Audio

Rapper / Skateboarder Terell Safadi just dropped a Black and Yellow remix, titled “Black Red Yellow”, a homage to the throwback Vancouver Canuck’s Jerseys of the 90′s. My favorite NHL team is having a banner year so far, and Terell’s anthem really captures the pride and energy of a city behind it’s team. Check it out:

Terell is currently recording a record with me here at Creativ Recording Studios, set for release this summer.

VIDEO BLOG: DJ Itchy Ron x Sweatshop Union (In Studio)

// December 13th, 2010 // No Comments » // Blog Post, In The Studio

Working on a new Sweatshop Union CD/DVD combo slated for release in 2011. Here’s some footage from a session involving DJ Itchy Ron laying down some cuts on a song I’m producing called “Bring Back The Music” featuring Juno nominee D-Sisive. Ronnie is a serato master, and its really cool to watch him do his thing.

Learning Curve: How To Get Funding as a Canadian Artist

// November 8th, 2010 // No Comments » // Blog Post, Learning Curve

What musician doesn’t want some additional funding to help them record, tour, make a music video, make a website, or do any of the other things that are necessary to get ahead today? You may have already heard about people appling for government funded Factor grants, but are still unsure of how to do so your self. The fact is: if you aren’t perusing some of these grants, or similar ones, you aren’t hustling hard enough. We do a lot of FACTOR funded recording here at Creativ. You should be getting in on our government’s willingness to help out Canadian musicians. Here’s the main avenues, via @musicbc:

MUSIC VIDEO: The Trillionaire$ “Hollywood Square” feat. Moka Only & Frank Nitt

// November 5th, 2010 // No Comments » // Audio

New music video from Sweatshop Union Presents: The Trillionaire$, directed by Stuey Kubrick. This track is off the album “By Hook or By Crook”, which debuted top 10 on the iTunes hiphop charts here in Canada. The song was mixed & mastered by me here at Creativ Recording Studios. Have a look:

PS – Don’t think I have noticed my trend of only posting videos up. Admittedly, it’s an easy, visually stimulating way out of having to find time to come up with my own content. That said I’m looking forward to writing some interesting new articles soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Here is the first installment of Vancouver recording artist Bowen’s first video blog. It takes a brief look into the amazing recording process we share. Bowen and I are on our fourth record together, so needless to say we have a great chemistry in the studio. He has also become a great friend over the years. Check out the video:

// September 14th, 2010 // No Comments » // Audio

New music video from the Sweatshop Union Presents: Dirty Circus record “Alive and Well”, directed by our friend Stuey Kubrick. This is one of my favorite tracks on the record, and was real fun to mix & master. Vancouver local Chin Injeti kils it on bass/synth/guitars. Check it:

VIDEO – Caspian “P.O.P.” / Studio Footage

// September 4th, 2010 // No Comments » // Audio, In The Studio

This latest video from Caspian was filmed live during our recording session here at Creativ Recording Studios. Its an aggressive track, which I understand may be a contender for his upcoming record, possibly as the intro track. This video is especially interesting because it takes you right into the moments of recording the song, and I even get a cameo or two. The video was filmed and edited by Blake McRitchie for Stompdown Killaz / FilmThis. Check it:
